At a Glance — n8n Monday.com Integration
- Native node included: monday.com node — boards, items, groups, columns; 18+ actions (create, update, get, delete)
- Auth: API token — avatar menu → Developers → My Access Tokens → Generate; enter in n8n's monday.com credential
- Incoming webhooks: no dedicated trigger node — receive via n8n's generic Webhook node, configured as an integration target inside monday.com's own automation settings
- The real value-add: syncing board items with CRM deals or ERP records, not just moving data within monday.com itself
- Common first build: CRM deal stage change → create/update a monday.com board item for the delivery/ops team, with the item ID stored back on the CRM record
- Reverse direction: monday.com status change → trigger a downstream action (ERP update, billing flow, notification) via monday.com's automation → n8n webhook target
n8n vs. monday.com's own automation recipes
monday.com's built-in automations are solid for logic that stays inside a board or account: status-based reminders, auto-assignment, item creation from a form embedded in the board. If the whole workflow lives inside monday.com, use its own automation recipes — no external setup needed.
n8n is the right tool when a board needs to reflect — or drive — something in another system: a CRM deal, an ERP project record, a billing event. Handing off a closed-won deal from sales to a delivery team tracked in monday.com, or triggering an invoice when a project item marks complete, both cross a system boundary that monday.com's own automation engine can't reach.
Connecting monday.com to n8n
Generate an API token from your monday.com avatar menu → Developers → My Access Tokens → Generate. In n8n, create a monday.com credential using that token — this is the entire setup on the monday.com side, and typically takes under 10 minutes including the n8n credential configuration.
There's no dedicated monday.com trigger node bundled with the standard integration. To receive events (an item's status changing, a new item created) in n8n, configure monday.com's own automation settings to call an n8n Webhook node as an integration target — monday.com sends the event payload to that URL, and n8n picks up from there.
The first time you point a monday.com automation at an n8n webhook, monday.com sends a verification "challenge" request that your webhook needs to respond to correctly before it'll accept the integration. This trips people up often enough that it's worth a dedicated guide — see our n8n monday.com webhook setup and verification guide if you hit an error here.
Workflow: CRM Deal Stage → monday.com Board Item
The standard pattern for handing a deal from sales to whoever executes on it — delivery, onboarding, project management — when that team lives in monday.com rather than the CRM:
- HubSpot Trigger or Salesforce Trigger node — fire when a deal moves to a specific stage (e.g., "Closed Won")
- Set node — extract deal name, value, owner, and any custom fields the delivery team needs
- monday.com node (Item → Create) — create a new item on the delivery board, mapping deal fields to board columns (status, owner, value)
- CRM node (Update) — write the new monday.com item ID back onto the CRM deal as a custom field, so any future update looks up the correct item instead of creating a duplicate
Workflow: monday.com Status Change → ERP or Billing Action
The reverse direction — using monday.com as the trigger for something that happens elsewhere:
- monday.com automation — configure a recipe: "when status changes to X, notify integration" pointing at your n8n Webhook node URL
- n8n Webhook node — receive the payload; verify it (see the callout above on first setup)
- IF node — branch on the new status value — e.g., only continue if status changed to "Complete"
- ERP/CRM node — take the downstream action: mark a NetSuite project as billable, update a Salesforce opportunity stage, or trigger a Slack notification to the account owner
This pattern turns monday.com from a passive tracking tool into a trigger for real downstream work, without anyone manually checking the board and updating the other system by hand.
Workflow: External Intake → monday.com Item
Any n8n trigger can create a monday.com item, which is useful for centralizing requests that would otherwise scatter across email and Slack:
- Webhook Trigger or Form Trigger — receive an internal service request, onboarding request, or support escalation
- monday.com node (Item → Create) — create the item on the relevant board with the request details mapped into columns, tagged by source so reporting can distinguish intake channels
